It has now been more than 3 years since the doctor told my mother that she had Diabetes. When I first heard the word "Diabetes", it struck terror in me. I was scared because I knew what she was facing. Gradually I saw her health fade and she began to lose her hair, become depressed, suffer from diabetic comas, and collapse frequently. She began to lose hope and give up on life, I still remember the time she handed me documents to her life insurance telling me "if anything happens to me, this is who you contact to pay for my funeral, and give your sister the other half of this life insurance policy". I too had began to fall depressed because of my mother's condition. Know that diabetes runs in my family genes, a few years earlier I watched my own Grand father die a slow, torturous death from the disease.
My father is a very health conscious individual and he refused to allow my mother to pump herself with insulin and other diabetes related prescription drugs daily. He knew that there was a natural alternative to treating the disease. My father and I encouraged my mother to simply change her diet to a vegetarian regime composed largely of raw fruits and vegetables. She changed her lifestyle and drank a lot of freshly extracted vegetable juice composed mainly of broccoli, beats, carrots, selenium, and spinach. Of course it is pretty obvious that eating healthy will help you live long and be healthy, but i never realized the full impact and power of natural foods until that experience. I would also like to mention that my father used to have sever high blood pressure as well as very poor vision. He eats very healthy foods and never eats anything with made made chemicals in it. He no longer wears glasses, nor does he have high blood pressure. I have implemented these eating habits into my lifestyle as well and the results have been phenomenal.
